Computational and Experimental Visualization in Heat and Mass Transfer Problems

چکیده

Validation and improvement of theoretical models and numerical results using experimental data is one of the most challenging research goals nowadays. With this objective a new experimental technique was developed and applied to the study of heat and mass transfer problems in uid ows. The method, based on a computational analysis of the colour and displacement of liquid crystal tracers, was used to determine both the temperature and velocity elds of natural convection ow within a rectangular enclosure. The paths of the individual tracers were obtained using 3-D particle tracking. Comparison of several experimental and numerical results will be discussed.
